It’s Proven: Sugar and Dairy Cause Acne

16 Feb

I’ve been saying for 25 years: there is a definite link between diet and the skin. This is a fact that many don’t want to believe…but if you are only treating acne with topical products you are addressing the symptoms and not the cause. To get rid of blemishes for good, you need to address both. Below is an article by Mark Hyman, MD reporting on the recent clinical studies that link dairy and sugar consumption to acne.

“It’s confirmed. Dairy products and sugar cause acne.

As our sugar and dairy consumption has increased over the last 100 years so has the number of people with acne. We now have over 17 million acne sufferers, costing our health care system $1 billion a year, and 80-90 percent of teenagers suffer acne to varying degrees. The pimply millions rely on infomercial products hawked by celebrities or over-the-counter lotions, cleansers, and topical remedies. Recent research suggests that it’s not what we slather on our skin that matters most but what we put in our mouth.

Cosmetics and Acne, the Unfortunate Link

6 Oct

Today’s post is another excerpt from my book Under My Skin about the link between cosmetics and acne.

If an evil genius wished to harm the skin of men and women, he could not have devised a better tool than cosmetics. Rubbing pore-clogging ingredients into the skin is the worst possible thing an acne sufferer can do. Some cosmetic ingredients are so potent that they can induce a form of acne in women who are not otherwise genetically acne-prone. In fact, one out of every three women can expect to be affected by the condition dermatologists are now calling acne cosmetica. It is no small problem. Acne cosmetica affects about 30 million women in the US. While I’m sure no one in the beauty industry set out to intentionally ruin the complexions of millions of women, sadly, it is happening. What originally began as an accident born out of ignorance continues today in the name of commercial expediency.

Your Diet and Your Skin

30 Aug

The following is an excerpt from my book Under My Skin. If you like what you read, you can purchase the eBook at www.vasseurskincare.com.

Diet and the Skin

A well-balanced diet combining vegetables, fruits, complex carbohydrates and protein offers the vitamins, minerals and nutrients we need to not “stress” the body and keep the skin healthy.

Most people consume three times the amount of protein and fat they require but don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. An inadequate intake of any nutrient results in reduced blood and oxygen flow to the skin, altered oil secretions, diminished maintenance and repair of injured tissue, alterations in skin color, and limited ability to fight infections. A proper diet can aid in changing these.
